Vulpiano Records

Marilyn Roxie

Vulpiano Records was launched in November 2009 by synth musician Marilyn Roxie, initially as a place to house great unsigned and independent artists they had come in contact with through networking in the music blogosphere. The concept behind Vulpiano is simple: to offer quality free music. Genres we specialize in are ambient, electronic, and acoustic. All artists are linked by their spirit of independence and experimentation. We hope you enjoy and share the music.

Following his eclectic opus 'A Space For Your Dreams' (released earlier this year on Vulpiano), Richey Hackett continues on his parallel path as an electronic composer with 'The Nightmarist'. Richey takes ideas and delves into them, skillfully weaving atmospheres throughout his kaleidoscopic chords: bitcrushed echoes, fizzing electrical signals, distorted percussion, and ambiguous vocal samples. Themes pervade: of digital consciousness as a spirit that haunts, disturbs, and blesses our synaptic...

Vulpiano mainstay King Elizabeth continues to playfully push the boundaries of his psychedelic sound. At its peaks, key, synth and string mesh together in orgiastic ecstasy; in its valleys, it is slowcore with shimmering guitar leads. While rhythmically rooted in an indie-dance pulse, there's a great deal of dynamic elasticity, with everything from fractured and paranoid breakbeat to lushly introspective acid house. Words from the artist: Going into the album I had the idea of incorporating my...

King Elizabeth -  The Awakening  (VULP-0162) Picking up from where King Elizabeth left off in 2012 with   Miami ,  The Awakening  contains all of the mesmerizing synth hooks and passionate vocal lines you’d hope for. The sultry “Mother” and churning title track “The Awakening” are among my favorites in this dark gleam of brilliance — 7 years in the making! — that Vulpiano Records is delighted to present.  Words from the artist: It's been a long journey to get to this point...

Many rewarding textures, twists, and turns are to be found in Richey Hackett's 'You Are Nothing But Light'. Charting new, dark ambient territory, each of these eight tracks are compelling both on their own and taken together as a whole; stand-outs include "True Dreams of False Awakenings", run-through with a mysterious, quirky energy, and the creeping, nervous buzz of "Rotating On The Toothed Wheel". Electronic composer Brevyn's latest platter for Vulpiano and landwalkers everywhere is a compilation of older recordings, themed around aquatic tone colors and ambiently-oriented rhythms. An established connoisseur of library music and videogame soundtracks, Brevyn fully explores this ethos as applied to the strikingly exotic and delicate environs that hum beneath the waves: short motifs (pale crabs clustering around a hydrothermal vent, seahorses weaving through coral forests) that are...

Richey returns with a single, "Sleepswitch", ahead of his upcoming solo album, along with exclusive b-side "Stepping Out Of The Window". Evoking the experience of insomnia, a panoramic synth refrain recalls someone pitching through a seastorm as a post-punk rhythm forces the ship onwards. A droning vortex of a solo organ progression serves as the coda.

Last seen on Vulpiano way back in 2013 with the eclectic bedroom pop-rooted opus 'Bubbles', guinpens / Danila Kozyrev returns with this altogether more warped and hypnagogic offering that reflects a tumultuous decade of vaporwave eating itself and distorted cultural feedback.  Worn cassette textures and dreamy atmospheres overwhelm hazy vocals, but guinpens once again runs the gamut and there's great care in the compositions: anesthetized tracks drowning in filtered samples, submerged...

Richey Hackett continues a prolific run of releases since returning to Vulpiano after a long absence, with this second single for his forthcoming album 'A Space For Your Dreams'. Abishai - Various Extras (VULP-0091) Abishai's Various Extras  is the successor to the artist's self-released Various Successes and Failures on Bandcamp  and his debut on Vulpiano Records. As with Successes and Failures , Various Extras  is an instrumental adventure through a kaleidoscope of genres, including ambient, industrial, noise, and drone. A wide array of textures are conveyed through these experiments in style; dip into the mixed bag and see what piques your interest....

Vulpiano Records release VULP-0006, Vito Genovese - Dead Ends and Fire Extinguishers! Known primarily for a slew of electronic releases on Rate Your Music, Vito has recently put out what is surely his best album yet, blending harrowing lo-fi electronic elements with chugging white noise like steam, and more modern ambient-electronic pieces like Rainy Bus Stop Afternoon and Warehouse Blues. Recommended for any fan of ambient/electronic and video game soundtracks.

Thorn1 - The Leave of Leaves (VULP-0072) Thorn1 is experimental drone, shoegaze, post-rock project of Evgeny Zheyda from Siberia Russia. Note from Evgeny Zheyda: This album finally threatens to regenerate into something you do not expect. I tried to put maximal honesty and sincerity in The Leave of Leaves and to create music I want to listening to. Without any allowances. From post-punk to enveloping drone and post-rock, from electronic to raw guitars. But it's not a post-rock, it's not a...

DYR FASER’s initial release for Vulpiano Records is a compilation of tracks from October 2015 through January 2016. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, DYR FASER is Eric Bøømhower, joined by Thalia Zedek on guitar in “Kōsō Biru” and in live performances playing guitar and singing vocal harmonies. DYR FASER Volum 1 is a wonderful swirl of synth and guitar, each song a dark, dangerous world of texture to get lost inside of. This is really one of the releases that I’ve been most proud of...

Veldt (VULP-0034) is a newly released EP from Lately Kind of Yeah on Vulpiano Records. A treat for enthusiasts of chiptune and vintage video game soundtracks, Veldt cycles through stages of an imaginary video game, from the optimistic title screen (O2) to boss fights (DRACULA and P.Mantium) and the dramatic conclusion (恐怖). Lately Kind of Yeah is the solo output of Nathan Rich (Delicatessens, Why Tired, Biollante), composer of lo-fi home recordings influenced by shoegaze, post-rock,...

VULP-0002, the first single release from Vulpiano Records: Tiny Tide - The Smiths & The Cure, which is (you guessed it) a sort of tribute to both of those bands, with a particularly spot-on jangly guitar.

Brevyn's electronic delights are showcased on his charming new single, 'Mouthbrooder / Seahorses', showcasing both vibrant rhythms and gentle waves respectively, a tantalizing peek into the aquatic treasurehouse of his upcoming album, scheduled for March 2021. Words from the artist: Wikipedia: 'Mouthbrooding, also known as oral incubation and buccal incubation, is the care given by some groups of animals to their offspring by holding them in the mouth of the parent for extended periods of...

Lately Kind of Yeah -  Voyage  (VULP-0139) Part of the  Lately Kind of Yeah  archive series. Voyage  marks a noticeable turning point in Lately Kind of Yeah’s discography. While there are echoes of the earlier highly thematic, lost video game OST vibes of  Hutton’s Paradox   and  Sol Saga , there is a rich tapestry of complex sounds and surprising transitions here that makes for an altogether more refined listening experience, particularly in my personal favorites “Artisans” and...

Following up from his 2014 album The Sins of Science, J.G. Hackett is back with a new album full to the brim with masterfully catchy synth rock as well as an exploration of new electronic styles. Words from the artist: It seems an age since I released any music. As many musicians will no doubt appreciate all too readily, life has got in the way. In my case that has been building a business, which has been so all-consuming my musical productivity has suffered. So it feels like a real treat to be...

The music that i made for "Poder Contra Verdad" (power vs truth) documentary, directed by José Ramón Rebollada.  The documentary tells the story of the Royal Cotton Factory , a neo-classical building , avant-garde at the time, which was built in Ávila, Spain by order of Charles III . It was one of the earliest attempts to create an industrial fabric in Spain and was a source of wealth in the city over three centuries. The film focuses primarily on the last years of the building...

I am pleased to release this single track from Nick Silva. Nick was an ally of Vulpiano Records back in 2009 at the very beginning, so it is excellent to — at long last — host a release from him on the netlabel itself! “Somewhere Way Too Far” offers a brief blast of his surreal style, acoustic guitar inflected with surreal noise and ponderous lyrics. Lately Kind of Yeah -  Hutton’s Paradox  (VULP-0136) Part of the  Lately Kind of Yeah  archive series. Hutton’s Paradox  largely shares in common the video game aesthetics of  Sol Saga  and  The Lost Adventures of Vexx , with the more minimal, acoustic “Exit Only” and “Compass” providing a reflective sonic escape .  A mixed bag of moods can be found here, from the bullet hell-in-space atmosphere of “Harken Laser” to my personal favorite, the complex “Moonquakes”...

Another Vulpiano Records release: VULP-0003, a compilation of tracks from Zapa (originally from Spain, now in the UK), another musician I have collaborated with that I am ~ecstatic~ to have on the label! I previously described him on AFIN as having "a lovely delivery of lyrics, and a softly psychedelic style that is a perfect chill-out soundtrack". Go have a listen for yourself!

Part of the Lately Kind of Yeah archive series. Demos they may be, Poindexter is awash in alternately warm, comforting and chaotically aggressive guitar fuzz and droney effects. making for a murky, dreamlike experience and yet another side of Lately Kind of Yeah. Words from the artist: “Loose companion record to the Holy Page release,  Derzyklus . Leftovers and demos grotesquely mixed as pulled from an old cassette tape, some related to the original triangle story. ‘Long Live’ through...
